Nutrition / Fueling

It seems anyone with a social media account is a nutrition expert with each one confidently screaming opposing views. Nutrition that works for one person may not work for another. Sure, I did a few nutrition courses during my Kinesiology degree, but I’m certainly no expert. I do nerd out on nutrition and read/listen to as much info as I can. I was ~vegan (vegetarian with dairy intolerance who ate some fish) for 2+ years, but am solidly back on meat. A few facts about me so you can decide if you want to listen to my thoughts on nutrition or not: I’m 186 cm/6’1”, +/- 85 kg/187 lbs, maintain ~15% body fat year round (2024 DXA), have a resting heart rate in the mid/upper thirties, have a blood pressure around (XXX, Sept, 2024), guide 50-80 ski touring days/year while breaking trail most of the day, thrive during big days on the skis/bike and average 7-800 hours of recorded activity per year (Strava).

A few nutrition ideas for your consideration (expanded below):

  • Become calorically literate - learn how many calories you eat & burn.

  • Know how much protein, fat & carbs you’re eating per day - facts are good.

  • Healthy everyday eating and fueling an athletic performance are two different things.

  • Body weight & composition matters.
